CURLY HAIR ?………….. You’re Not Serious

Since when did straight hair become so, well – “Footballers’ Wives”? Not in a glitzy, ballsy, unashamedly Essex way, but in a bad way. “Now” hair on the other hand, is curly! Finally, after nearly half a decade of threatening to come back, it’s here.

Women are reaching for accouchements like curling tongs and rollers, which have been languishing at the back of drawers and cupboards. A whole new generation are asking us how to use them and we are able to put the Ghd Ceramic Iron to a new use.

Don’t be fooled by curly hair ‘2004’. The new curly hair is not endorsing any notion of letting it all hang out. Quite the opposite. The new curly hair is, in fact, as studied as the old straight hair. It is just less obviously so. To get perfect “now” curls, it is actually better to have straight (or even straightened) hair to begin with, so you can start from scratch to create well-crafted, perfect curls falling precisely where and how you want them. Or if you would like your look to last up to 6 weeks, you could get a ‘perm’. No, really, perms are back. We are leading the way forward with the new “Freestyle Perm” for the more fashion conscious client. Sure they are not queuing up, but Taunton does have them. Perms for some still suffer from the image crisis, thanks to the brittle, tight efforts of some 1980s provincial hairdressers, which also tainted all provincial hairdressers’ reputations, encouraging many to search out city salons.

What if my hair is naturally curly, I hear you ask. Well, you often have the advantage of having bigger hair, but the disadvantage of being unruly, with possibly small or even frizzy hair. Using moisture shampoos and treatments that are guaranteed like Redken’s “Allsoft” range and finishing products from Sebastian’s “Laminates” range, will ensure greater control and get you closer to this look.

So straight hair occupies a strange position. It is simultaneously ‘officially’ out of fashion, but also as a result of this curl revolution, somewhat avant-guard. The provinces will be slower to catch up and we are currently working the S to L look – that’s hairdresser speak for Short to Long. I should have said that first, but I just wanted to impress! This look works well on straight hair, giving height and texture, but keeping the length (no baseball caps allowed).

It seems however, for the fashion conscious; it may be curtains for bone straight hair right now. A flick through any of the ladies glossies and you will be confronted by tousled beauties with waves and soft curls.
